Cherry blossoms さくら
Sweet red bean paste ANKO あんこ is in a coarsely mashed sticky rice ball which is tinted pink to look like a cherry blossom.
The most important part of the Sakura-mochi 桜餅 さくらもち is to wrap it with a cherry leaf, which tastes like a pickle. The leaf gives the sticky rice a cherry flavor, and it is edible.
This type of Sakura-mochi 桜餅 さくらもち is especially popular in western Japan.
